Badger Boys State

The American Legion Post 224 has supported the Badge Boys State Program for several years.

Description

Badger Boys State – June 9-15, 2024
UW-Eau Claire Campus

This upcoming June, Badger Boys State will be holding its 81st session. We are excited to welcome nearly 900 young leaders from across Wisconsin to the UW-Eau Claire campus and are working diligently to plan an impactful session. Upon arriving, participants become citizens of one of 27 cities and one of 9 counties. Citizens are tasked with electing public officials at the city, county, and state levels and governing effectively throughout the session. Through this process, young leaders not only learn the fundamentals of civics, but also develop the interpersonal skills and confidence necessary for the next generation of leaders to feel empowered to be leaders in their local communities.

What Is Badger Boys State?

Badger Boys State is an intensive one-week summer camp for young men between their junior and senior years of high school to learn more about government and how to be a better leader.

How Does Badger Boys State Work?

As a selected attendee, students will act as a “citizen” of the fictitious 51 st state of the union, the Badger state. Being assigned to a city and county of the state, citizens will run for and elect their peers to positions within each level of the state government. These officials will act out the roles and responsibilities that they’ve been elected for the entire duration of the program, serving for the betterment of their community over the course of the week. In addition to this hands-on approach towards building a community, students will also learn from each other, develop friendships, network with our volunteer staff, and enjoy a thoroughly unique experience in their education.

How Are People Selected and Sponsored For Badger Boys State?

There are two requirements that are needed to attend Badger Boys State:
